So like I said, I went to my first munch last night. This wasn’t my first time at a BDSM scene event, but it was my first munch, and my first time attending (anything really) by myself not knowing anyone who was going to be there.
Instead of going to the gym first thing in the morning I put it off till it was almost too late, which I think ended out working in my favor as it burnt off most of my nervous energy. I got home, showered, put together an acceptable outfit. When I got in the car I realized that I was leaving far too early, but decided to head across town anyways and if I was too early I’d grab some coffee. Construction traffic slowed me down enough to the point that when I actually arrived and parked I was right on time.
The Vermilion, seems to be part art gallery part, well I don’t want to say dive bar, more delightfully unrefined. I wasn’t the very first person there, but close. I got a drink and looked at some paintings for a bit, feeling awkward and conspicuous. Finally there were enough people that someone started making introductions and conversation progressed from there.
Overall I had a pretty good time, it was a little loud for a meet and greet, and conversation was pretty light and superficial, except for a few comments one wouldn’t ever really guess that everyone there was kinky. I did have a few delightfully nerdy conversations, which was nice, since most of my current social group isn’t terribly nerdy.
The ratio of men to women was pretty good, but since people don’t open with”Hi I’m a dom, what are you?” I couldn’t tell you what the ratio of Dommes to Malesubs was (Fetlife doesn’t show any women self labeling as dominant as RSVPed but there were more people there than on the event page, I think.) I definitely got vibes from one or two people, but I don’t know where or if that will lead anywhere.
In any case, I may start getting a bit more involved, there is another event going on next weekend billed as the Seattle Geek Munch, which should be fun, I like having something to do when meeting new people. I’ll see how that goes, and if I continue to enjoy the social aspects of the scene I might go a bit deeper.
This isn’t the way I wanted to introduce myself on your blog, because it’s going to come off a little creepy, but glad you enjoyed our munch! Not sure if I got a chance to meet you. There are some women who top and dominate in our group, it’s just a little harder to find them.
It’s hardly creepy, I’ve got links all over the place for just this purpose. I had a great time, I don’t think we met (did a little e-stalking just now, and didn’t recognize your Fetlife pictures.) But I’m planning on going to the geek munch next weekend if you’ll be there, and who knows I might be back next month.
